When Someone Else’s Success Stops Feeling Like a Threat

When I was seventeen years old, I was devastated after being rejected from my dream university.

At the time, it felt like failure.

It felt like I had lost.

But twenty years later, I can see that rejection was one of the greatest gifts God ever gave me.

In this solo episode of The Creative Catholics, I share the story of how a closed door at Northwestern University unexpectedly led me to study theatre, move to Scotland, meet my husband, and discover a life I never could have planned for myself.

Along the way, we'll explore:

  • Why competition feels so normal in modern culture

  • The hidden dangers of comparison

  • What John the Baptist teaches us about mission and abundance

  • How St. Paul’s image of the Body of Christ challenges our competitive mindset

  • Why God's providence is often easier to see in reverse

  • And how discovering your mission changes the way you see everyone else's success

If you've ever felt like you've fallen behind, missed an opportunity, or watched someone else receive the life you thought you wanted, this episode is for you.

Because sometimes what feels like rejection is actually redirection.

And sometimes the competition we think we need to win isn't ours to win at all.
